Moni Island is a charming, uninhabited islet located just off the coast of Aegina in the Saronic Gulf.

Known for its crystal-clear waters, pristine beaches, and friendly peacocks roaming freely, Moni makes for a perfect day trip destination.

The island is easily accessible by water taxi from Perdika, a fishing village on Aegina’s western coast. There are such water taxi boats departing to Moni from Aegina Town, as well. This journey is about minutes longer than the one starting in the port of Perdika.

There are private boats to hire to take you from Aegina to Moni. You may enjoy yourself more, but you’d surely need to pay more than the water taxi fare.

Alternative Transportation Options

Direct Water Taxi from Aegina Town

Some operators offer water taxi services directly from Aegina Town to Moni Island, though this is less common and more expensive than the standard route via Perdika.

Private Boat Tours

Several tour operators offer private boat excursions that include Moni Island as part of a broader Saronic Gulf tour. These typically depart from Athens (Piraeus) or Aegina and may include multiple stops.

Organized Tours

Half-day and full-day tours are available that include transportation from your accommodation on Aegina to Perdika, boat transfer to Moni, and return journey.

The Best Choice

On most Greek islands the capital town is the main node for buses and taxis. Commuting from there to any point on the island is easy. Commuting between any other two points, though, can be a cumbersome endeavor, as you’d have to travel first to the capital town, and then take another bus to your final destination.

Santorini buses, for instance, operate similarly to the ones on Aegina. All bus lines start in Fira.

This is why I’d avoid buses. Taxis are better, but they also have their headquarters in Aegina Town. Ordering a taxi in Perdika may result in long waiting times and higher prices, as taxis must come all the way from Aegina Town to pick you up in Perdika, then take you to your destination.

Getting to Moni Island from anywhere on Aegina is straightforward once you reach Perdika.

The key is planning your route to Perdika based on your starting point, with Aegina Town offering the most reliable bus connections.

The short boat ride from Perdika to Moni is the final step in reaching this lovely islet where peacocks and deer roam around freely.
